All materials and components are fastidiously chosen to give the best visual results and the best sound. We will now account for the components and the materials that are used to make our loudspeaker.
Connectors
The connectors are responsible for keeping the circuit in the loudspeaker together and therefore have to be made out of high quality material in order for the signal to not be distorted. In Cilea Marian we use WBT Gold Signature terminals. WBT has made hi-fi terminals for more than 20 years and Signature is one of their best types. Every connector is hand polished to give a glossy finish of 24-karat gold.
Cables
The entire internal cabling of the loudspeakers is done with Supra PLY, which is made with flat conductors that give the signals the biggest possible surface area for travel. This produces low induction, which assures an undisturbed flow between connectors and units. The Swedish Supra has won numerous international prizes for their famous cables, which are used for home cinemas and other hi-fi configurations.
Audio crossover
The audio crossovers form the basis for Cilea Marian’s indescribable acoustics. The majority of the crossovers are made of “Professional Concept Audio” components - with the exception of the treble capacitor, that we sourced from the Mundorf Silver series. All components are chosen with the absolute highest standards in terms of sound, tested with other high fidelity components. To minimize resistance, which can be found in circuit boards, all components are hand soldered together with point to point wiring. We call it sound without compromise!
Cabinet
The cabinet is hand made from MDF ”Medium Density Fiberboard”, which is a wood fiber material that is glued and pressed together when dry. Wood and glue are two very resonation-deadening materials that give the loudspeaker a very clear sound. The cabinet is made out of 4 MDF units of which two of them are molded, glued and pressed to create the round form.
Units
To get such a big sound out of the loudspeaker, we have chosen to use only one treble and one midrange woofer unit. The Danish Scanspeak is famous for making one of the best high fidelity units in the world. The foundation lies in the midrange woofer, which uses an “under hung magnet system”, which means that the coil is controlled by a magnetic field instead of firm center discs. By using this technique the coil gets less resistance and is at the same time under more control. That means that you can play the music extremely loud without distorting the unit.
Noise suppression
The loudspeakers units send sound waves around in the cabinet that need to be suppressed. Here we use a specific noise suppression material on the inside of the cabinet. The solution is Bitumen mixed with fabric. The noise suppression material eliminates most of the resonance that can possibly affect the sound image.
Bass reflex port
The bass reflex port enables the loudspeaker to breathe and handle the pressure that builds up in the cabinet when the midrange woofer is active. Its length and diameter determines how the bass will sound. In this loudspeaker the bass reflex port is specifically curved at both ends, which reduces the port noise that can occur when the loudspeaker is active.
Acoustic material
The loudspeaker is covered with an acoustic, see-though material that enables instruments and notes to reach every corner of the room. The material also contributes to its unique look.
Aluminum
A high quality loudspeaker of this caliber has to equal its acoustic accomplishments with its outer presentation. The outermost layer is specially made out of polished aluminum that is oxidized in the final stages of construction, which gives it a raw, brushed look. The oxidization protects the surface from grease and scratches. The method is an imitation of the natural aluminum protection process that is created under highly controlled conditions. The Cilea logo is encrusted with diamonds at the bottom of the loudspeaker.
Spikes
Marian is specially designed to handle the bass that is produced when the loudspeaker is active.
If you place the loudspeaker on the floor without the spikes, you couple the loudspeaker with the floor, which changes the original design of the loudspeaker and its ability to control the bass. By putting 4 spikes underneath the loudspeaker, there is no physical contact with the floor and the bass can travel freely around the room.
